Goodwater, Al– Leslie is a very young woman in a very important position in Goodwater, Alabama. She has been city clerk for two years, and before that she worked two years for the police department.
No question that Ms. Parker is in charge.
Our guess is she won the clerk’s job just six years out of high school in part because she is intelligent, personable and a very strong woman not afraid to take a stand.
Since she commutes daily from Sylacauga, Alabama, a few miles up the road, I asked her if she had family members in Goodwater. She said firmly and clearly she did not and would not discuss personal subjects. She would not change her mind.
Her home town of Sylacauga is a far different community. At last count it had a population of 12,736. On its website it boasts: “Sylacauga has everything you’re looking for, state of the art medical services, outstanding schools, exceptional library, multiple recreational opportunities, and a strong business and industry base.”
It also points on its website the whitest marble in the world is mined there and is used by sculptors in Europe. Their site even offers a video showing examples of Sylacauga marble used by artists.
One can only wonder if Goodwater is grooming Parker for a city hall job in Sylacauga of something bigger.
